New Orleans airport terminal, opening 2019 with some local favorites!

With New Orleans claiming the No. 1 spot for travel destination in 2018, it’s no surprise that our airport terminal is getting a new fabulous look! For those looking to spend some time for work or play or both in the Big Easy, you’ll be welcomed by a brand-new airport terminal in 2019. According to NOLA.com, “Construction crews are more than halfway finished with New Orleans’ new airport terminal, a $993.7 million project with 35 gates and a brand new 2,100-space parking garage. The terminal is set to open in February 2019.”

The new updated look designed by Cesar Pelli of Pelli Clarke Pelli, Manning Architects, and the Crescent City Aviation Team, a joint venture of Leo A. Daly Company and Atkins North America Inc. will include an open and airy with a glass facade that gives wide views of the airfield. The terminal is arranged in an arc shape and one of the primary design features is a giant skylight in the main arrivals hall, which will let natural light in. Food and retail will be located down the center of each concourse, allowing for more windows overlooking the airfield. In addition, the design includes a “jazz garden,” which will have greenery and a round stage where local musicians can perform.” Which is fantastic because New Orleans is brimming with such amazing and wonderful local talent so a preview of what’s to come in the Crescent City is an absolute treat!

Also, we are particularly excited by the new food choices. MSY will finally offer national giants like Shake Shack and Starbucks and local favorites like City Greens, MoPho, Cafe Du Monde and Angelo Brocato’s just to name a few. There haven’t been too many food options in our airport historically, which never made sense considering New Orleans is known for her unique and delicious cuisine. The new retail offerings include a mix of local and national brands like CNBC, Dylan’s Candy Bar, Dirty Coast, Preservation Hall, and more. Now, you can bring a bit New Orleans flavor home or to your next destination. We recommend Dirty Coast to scoop some unique t-shirt designs that even the locals wear!
